Margaux Mercier is a Master’s intern in Biomechanics at the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Solides (LMS). Her 6-month research project focuses on the experimental characterization and imaging of corneal tissues.
Background
Margaux is an engineering student at Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) and is currently completing her Master’s degree within the Biomechanics (BME) track at Université Paris Cité. Her academic background provides her with a strong foundation in structural and mechanical engineering, which she is actively applying to the biomedical field and soft tissue mechanics.
Internship Overview
Project: Experimental characterization of human corneal mechanical behavior
During her internship, Margaux is investigating the mechanical response of the human cornea to better understand its structural integrity and deformation properties.
Her core responsibilities and methodologies include:
- Experimental Testing: Performing bulge testing on human corneal tissue to characterize its mechanical behavior under pressure.
- Bioimaging & DVC: Utilizing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) coupled with 3D Digital Volume Correlation (DVC) to precisely track, reconstruct, and analyze 3D tissue deformation.
- Custom Engineering: Designing custom experimental fixtures using CAD software to support physical measurements, and developing custom scripts for advanced data analysis.
Through this project, she is gaining extensive hands-on experience in soft tissue mechanics, advanced bioimaging techniques, and rigorous experimental research methodologies.
Key topics: Corneal Mechanics Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Digital Volume Correlation (DVC)
